Standard Road Trip Rules

Road trips cannot be taken too seriously and so I have established a few rules for when I travel:

  1.  NO CHAIN RESTAURANTS
  2. Stop when we want to
  3. Stop where we want to
  4. Don’t plan too far ahead
  5. Listen to the radio until there is no signal
  6. There must be a road trip bottle

Now you may be wondering about the road trip bottle.  I’m not sure where the idea came from but this is it: the road trip bottle must be sealed when you leave and has to last the entire trip so that it will last long enough to be finished upon returning home.  It’s best to have something that can be consumed without mix and does not require refrigeration.  A case of something doesn’t work; it has to be one bottle.  The idea is to have a drink and toast the day’s safe travels once we safely put in for the night.

And my insistence at not eating at chain restaurants.  I figure that if I’m going to drive for days on end, why would I eat at a place that I pass day in and day out?  I have had some amazing food this way. I’ve had a few not so great meals too.  And I have had a ton of pizza.  It’s a good thing I like pizza.  A lot.  But that’s all part of the fun.
